Laura is a SoulCollage® Facilitator

In 2007, I started learning the practice of SoulCollage® and became a facilitator in 2012. I teach SoulCollage® classes and paint from my own deck of collaged cards. This practice has helped me to listen to and learn from my intuition and unconscious psyche.

Learn a little bit about the expressive arts practice called SoulCollage®. The tutorial covers the basic premise of SoulCollage®, along with making and reading a card. (7 min.) Time-lapse section of Laura making a card at 4:51.

What is the origin of SoulCollage®?

Founder Seena B. Frost, M.A., M.Div. (1932-2016) developed her ideas for creating collaged cards and consulting them for self-discovery in her psychotherapy groups in the late 1980s. Her experiences revealed the transformational possibilities of the method and SoulCollage® was born. SoulCollage® Evolving (2010), a revised, expanded edition of Seena’s first book, was published and SoulCollage® Facilitator Training programs were held. The community took root and blossomed. What is SoulCollage®?

SoulCollage® is an expressive arts practice done individually or in community. You create a personal deck of 5x8 inch collaged cards that can be separated into five or more suits, as described by Seena Frost. A person can read their cards using the “I Am the One Who” active imagination prompt: you imagine what the images on the cards may say, and in that way, you can listen to their inner wisdom as it projects into your consciousness through the images and your own imagination and intuition. Only trained SoulCollage® facilitators can teach classes.

How popular is SoulCollage®?

With over 4,000 trained SoulCollage® Facilitators leading workshops in 49 countries, we have grown into a global community of many thousands who support and encourage one another on the path of healing and wholeness. As we discover our wisdom, we inevitably change our worlds. (from World of SoulCollage®)

How does a SoulCollage® card “teach” me?

By using the I Am the One Who and other prompts, you can bring to light what your unconscious self already knows. When you made the card, you brought images together that spoke to your imagination. When you write or speak as if you are the images in the card, those unconscious understandings are brought to light.

How can a personal SoulCollage® deck “teach” me?

When you develop a deck, you begin to fill in a more complete picture of your psyche. There are many techniques to increase your awareness and wisdom about yourself using the SoulCollage® deck: cards that represent aspects of your personality can “dialogue” with each other; you can ask an oracle question of the deck and draw one or more cards and see what they have to say; you can discover patterns in your cards that reveal patterns in yourself, etc.

Why should I take a class?

SoulCollage® has different aspects to it that enrich and deepen its practice. Learning about the suits, different ways to read a card, and more about archetypes, for example, expands your practice. You also gain practical tips on card-making and benefit from the energy of a group experience.

What materials do I need to make a SoulCollage® card?

You’ll need printed images from magazine, books, online, etc. For a backing, mat board cut into a 5 inch by 8 inch rectangle is best, but cardboard or even card stock will work. All that’s left is glue sticks, scissors, and something to protect your surface from stray glue (we use a “glue book,” which is just a junky catalogue or phone book).

What about copyrighted images?

Good question! Because most of our cards will be made with copyrighted images, we never sell or barter our cards out of respect to the photographers. If you want to make cards from your own photographs or stock images, that’s fine, too, but we still don’t recommend selling them. The cards are for personal use.
